DIY :: Upcycled Doily Bowls at Blueberry Bog

Doily Bowls

Need :: Doily, Elmer's or Mod Podge, Foam paintbrush, small scizzors, non-plastic tape, and cups

1 :: Blow up a balloon relative to the size of the doily you are working with.

2 :: Tape balloon to cup or glass with painter's or masking tape. (To keep upright and stationary).

3 :: Mix 1 part Elmers Glue and 1 part Water, (or use Mod Podge,) in a container/cup & stir.

4 :: Saturate foam brush with glue mixture and coat both sides of doily thoroughly. (I do this directly on my craft table, you may want to lay down wax paper).

5 :: Gently place glue soaked doily over the top of the balloon. You have a minute to adjust if needed. Arrange edges as desired, (folds or no folds, etc.).

6 :: Allow to dry completely. I make a bunch at one time, and let dry overnight.

7 :: Pop balloon with small scissors or knife, and remove shriveled balloon gently.

8 :: Using your fingers gently flatten the bottom circle area until it sits flat on the table top!

Ta Da!

I have spray painted these before! They look amazing with one color on the outside, and another on the inside...

P.S.

9 :: Don't forget to add a clear spray paint coat, or you could add another layer of mod podge.

Lot's of luck to you & Enjoy your Crafting!

Butterfly Wedding Fascinator - Weddings Media, PA

Butterfly Wedding Fascinator

This was so fun to do! This is a custom order for a bride who admired my butterfly retail display at Kuta in Media, PA! She just knew it when she saw them... just one simple butterfly clip for her bridal 'do. So of course she came straight down to the Bog.

The trick with this was to reinforce the pre-made feather wings. I simply cut waterproofing/weather-sealing tape on to the backside, (you can get it at any home-improvement store and is acid-free). I was sure to mod-podge over the edges to keep it neat and clean. I then painted the entire front and back with silver, (a couple of coats). After some overnight drying time, I glued an alligator clip to the backside of the butterfly body.

VoilĂ ! A one-of-a-kind hairpiece was born. I am kind of biased towards loving this since I hatch monarchs at home, and do everything in my power to attract butterflies! It sure is a lot of fun to make someone's day extra special.

Handmade in Media, PA & lovin' it!

One Year Anniversary Celebration :: 2nd Saturday in March

One Year Anniversary Celebration @ Blueberry Bog
2nd Saturday Arts Stroll

Paintings by Danielle E. Kertis will be on view from March's 2nd Saturday through April's 2nd Saturday. From the Media Arts Council Artist Registry:

"
My name is Danielle E. Kertis. I paint mixed media pieces in acrylic on canvas with original photography. I've been in love with painting for about 14 years. I didn't even know I had any talent. My husband and I got our first apartment together and couldn't afford any of the beautiful artwork I wanted. So, I gave painting a try. Turns out, it's my gift! Most of all, I LOVE it!!! I have always incorporated photographs into my pieces. It gives my whimsical imagery a realistic tinge. And gives me a chance to look at life through my camera lens. I have only had the opportunity to take one small class at the Wallingford Community Arts Center, but the saying "practice makes perfect" absolutely holds true. The more I paint, the more wonderful my paintings become.
