Media ICONS (& Beyond) Juried Photography Exhibit

3rd Annual Media ICONS (& Beyond) Juried Photography Exhibit

ICONS poster by Chris Dietrich, M.A.C.

Here are my entries selected for display at this very special exhibition:

Self-Portrait of the Artist

"Self-Proclaimed Local Yokel" ICONS Category
Self-Portrait while painting En Plein Air at
M.A.C.'s Bastille Day Celebration
in July 2009

The photograph, above, was taken from a tri-pod with self timer. It is not a double exposure as many people believe. I selected aperature priority which automatically set the shutter speed at about 22 seconds. I pre-programmed my Nikon digital SLR to flash twice, once with "slow-sync," and lastly with "rear-sync".

BFF's in West Virginia

"BFF's in West Virginia" Beyond Category

I am biased because this is my dog, "Izo," but decided to submit the photo because it is not your typical family pet picture. No worries, my dog knows that the butterflies and bees are "Mommies Buddies" and he doesn't hurt them. "Izo" is a Shiba Inu. Read more about the breed Shiba Inu on Wikipedia!

Congratulations to all of the winners, as seen above in the ICONS (& Beyond) poster, and many thanks to the Media Arts Council for another great show!

Enjoy!

Fun Night Out at 2nd Saturday in August - Media, PA

Media Arts Council Fun night out last night as usual! August's 2nd Saturday featured a fun-for-all-ages Scavenger Hunt! You could find me volunteering at the Scavenger Hunt table, where we also had visitors draw pictures to mail to Senator Pileggi to ask for funding for the arts. The arts budget is in danger of being cut 100% in Pennsylvania... ouch!

But the artists shall prevail, and here is a hightlight of some local artists who have their artwork around town the entire month of August.

Find Leslie's artwork at the Court Diner!

Leslie of EveningStarGallery.etsy.com at The Court Diner.
Be sure to visit her Etsy Shop! Leslie is also a member of
Handmade Philly.

And Christian Taber's artwork can be seen at Starbuck's, Baltimore Pike & Providence Roads. He is donating a portion of the proceeds to the Easter Seals of South Eastern P.A.

It's an Arts Extravaganza! Fasten your seatbelts, this is going to be fantastically fun! There is a whirlwind of arts events in Media this 2nd Saturday. July's 2nd Saturday falls between the anniversaries of the American and French Revolutions: America's Fourth of July and France's Bastille Day on July 14. We will celebrate with theatre, dancing, street artists, live music, kids' activities and much more! There is so much happening, it is hard to know where to begin, but here it goes...

Program of events: All locations are listed on the map!

And look for these ongoing activities...

... and street artists:
  • Stilts, juggling & balloon art by Dick Rainer

  • Strolling Accordionist Greg Troiano
  • Flying Painter Colin Magness

Plein Air Painting (that's painting outdoors, just like Paris!)
Lots of music, artwork and more!

State Street will be closed on three blocks (Orange Street to Jackson Street) to accommodate the performances. There will be many Bastille Day arts events at 2nd Saturday Participating Businesses through the evening, with 50 businesses hosting 25 visual artists and live music at 14 locations!

It's a lot to fit, but you can find it all on our 2nd Saturday map! Check it out now, or pick it up at participating businesses on 2nd Saturday.

Enjoy the atmosphere of 1940's Paris!
