Alumni Entrepreneur Expo - Media, PA

My Alumni Artist Display
The annual Alumni Expo came and went, with a nice turnout considering the rainy weather. I had been invited by the Alumni Association to display information about my small art business, and talk to current students about my work. Not only did I get to explain to everyone how easy it is to start an art shop on Etsy.com, I had the pleasure of speaking with some Alumni I know very well, as well as some I had not met yet. Just two tables down were Sheila & Sharon's Cookies, who I had the previous pleasure of meeting at the Pabst Blue Ribbon Craft Challenge in February. And at the head of the pack was veteran wedding photographer, Dave Branson, who I have previously assisted at one of his many wedding jobs. He showed off his professional wedding albums and family portraits to the student body. Many other local independent businesses showed how they got their start at DCCC, and explained what products and services they provide to the surrounding community.

The artwork I had on display today included a pointillism watercolor, "Fear of Hayfever," which was selected for the DCCC Alumni Artists Showcase Media ICONS Juried Photography Exhibit 2009 R M Lee2007, and a photograph, "Window Shopping on State Street," which was selected for the M.A.C. Media ICONS 2nd Look Photography Exhibit 2008.

As a Registered Artist of the Media Arts Council, I was sure to remind everyone that this Saturday is the "2nd Saturday in Media Arts Stroll." My red, white, and blue 2nd Saturday art exhibit at Trader Joe's has been extended through all of March, be sure to stop in anytime the store is open! 2nd Saturday festivities happen from 6pm - 9pm, with over 40 participating businesses, and is "Fun for ages 2- 102!" For more information please visit the Official Non-Profit Site. Anyone interested in displaying art in Media, should join the Media Arts Council Artist Registry.

I also had students and alumni create doodles all on the same page to create a one-of-a-kind anonymous public artwork. Names are being withheld for student safety. This will be my firt posting on the new art blog "Philly Makes," which I am very excited about being a part of. I will be making at least one "thing" a week, along with many other artists in the metro area, and I will post all of my weekly "things" on-line throughout the year.
